Sin-A-Mon Tales

A chronicle of my kitchen experiments, a little healthy a little indulgent

Pupcakes for the new boy in the house

A month ago we got an adorable little (well he really is not little) pup at home, he is a mixed breed from German Shepherd mother and a Great Dane father and yes we have already been told he will be HUGE, N is actually looking forward to it. He says dogs are dogs only when they are huge, we both grew up with dogs and were very clear that Ojas has to grow up with one. The only question in our minds was when do we get a dog. The other thing we both were clear was that we are gonna adopt one. Neither of us believes in buying dogs, they are friends, companions for life and can’t be bought. So when someone on my timeline posted that there is a pup up for adoption we kind of lapped up the opportunity. We did think once because well we were sure he was gonna be huge but then like I said, N said “the bigger the better”

He has been home for a month and what I see is a beautiful bond developing between the two boys,  yes O does come to me sometimes complaining that Fluffy is troubling him and fluffy growls back when O picks his two legs and makes him walk like a dragonfly (rolls eyes) but then that’s what growing up together means right and then there are moments like below, when you take a break from work and see the two boys cuddled up, oblivious to the world around them, happy in each other’s warmth and friendship and you know you have done the right thing. That the crazy nights and the pee and poop cleaning are all worth it

He completed one month with us day before and became 3 month old and O was very particular that we have to celebrate his birthday, he wanted him to have a cake and gifts (and return gifts for himself, yeah that). I did nothing of that sort but baked some pupcakes for him, something I have been itching to do since I got him home. Was debating between pupcakes and cookies but the pupcakes I saw at Arundati’s blog finally drew me in

He absolutely loved the cupcakes. At first he just sniffed them and went away and broke my heart that damn he is not gonna eat them but then two minutes later came back sniffed them again and started playing with them and then started the licking, he then took them to a corner and eat it to his heart’s content and came back to me begging for more

Recipe – Multigrain Apple Pupcakes

(Adapted from Arundati’s Banana Pupcakes)

How I made it

  • Preheat oven to 180C. Line a cupcake pan with cupcake liners.
  • Mix both the flours and baking powder and soda together
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together all the liquid ingredients
  • Add flour to it and whisk till just mixed
  • Spoon the batter into cupcake papers, about 3/4 full. Place a dog biscuit in the center of each filled cup.
  • Bake 16-18 minutes.

Having known the blissful experience of growing up with dogs, I can understand why you chose to have one for O. I hope to do the same for my kids. The lessons learnt are immeasurable.
Fluffy is adorable 🙂 Pls give him a hug from my end 🙂

Aww, am glad Fluffy liked the pupcakes. They are a favourite with the resident canine King in our home too… am so glad you got him, its a very different kind of child that grows up with a pet companion. Yes he will be big, but so much more to love!
