A chronicle of my kitchen experiments, a little healthy a little indulgent

Bateta nu Shaak – Step by Step Recipe

I first heard of this dish in a Tarla Dalal cook book and came across it again in a microwave cook book from her, its apparently a gujarati dish, basically potatoes cooked in tomatoes and spices. Sounded intersting enough to try and with MEC – Potato Feast happening I felt its the right time to make it

So let me take you through the step by step recipe today

Peel and dice around 5 medium sized potatoes and microwave them on HIGH with a little water for about 4 minutes till almost done

Keep aside and in a seperate bowl mix 1/2 tsp mustard seeds, 1/2 tsp jeera seeds, 2 pinches of hing, 1/4 turmeric powder, 2 green chillies slit, 1 tsp of chilli powder, 1/2 inch ginger grated and one tsp of oil. Microwave it on HIGH for about 3 minutes

Add 2 medium chopped tomatoes and microwave on HIGH for 2 minutes

Add 1 tbsp corainder-cumin seeds powder, potatoes and microwave for about 3 minutes

Garnish with fresh corainder leaves and serve with hot chappathis

And this goes to MECPotato Feast and to Tickling Plates – Lets Cook Sabzi for rotis

Simple and tasty..never prepare this in the MW though! I partially cook veggies in the MW to finish my cooking faster.
